The Enugu State Government has announced the imposition of curfew in some parts of the State.GUTV gathers that this is as End SARS protest intensified in major parts of the State on Wednesday.
Youths are marching from one part of the State to another setting bonfires on the roads.The Government has now announced 24-hour curfew in Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu South Local Government Areas, effective from 7pm today, Wednesday, October 21, 2020, until further notice.
Meanwhile, Following the escalating crisis necessitated by arson and attacks by thugs Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has declared a 24hiur curfew on some parts of Rivers State.
Thugs Wednesday attacked and burnt down Oyigbo Area Command of the Rivers State Police Command without sparing a Senior Police Officer found in the station.
The crisis also spread to the popular oil mill market at Rumukwurusi in Obio-Akpor Local government area where the thugs attacked shop owners and passersby at will.
A similar incident was also recorded at the long stretch of Ikwerre Road between Mile 3 and Education Bustop as armed thugs engaged Police officers in a free for all.
Two persons are reportedly dead in the shoot out. Following the incidents, Governor Wike in a statewide broadcast declared a 24hr curfew on Oyigbo, Oilmill and Emenike area of Port Harcourt.
The Governor who appreciated the peaceful disposition of the End SARS protesters expressed regret about how hoodlums hijacked the process to unleash mayhem on the state.
In a related development, the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, will deliver a special broadcast to the people of Abia State this evening at 6pm.
This was contained in a terse issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, on Wednesday evening.
The release enjoined All media organizations in the State to hook up to the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State for the special broadcast.
This is coming on the heels of mass protests by Abia residents against the brutality of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, which resulted in the destruction of lives and property in the State.
Recall that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had earlier on Monday, inaugurated a Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate the demands of the End SARS protesters.
