President of Somalia is on the news again, as his ardent supporters clashed with the opposition party on Sunday in the capital, Mogadishu.

The President and the commander in chief of the Nation of Somalia are on the news again on Sunday evening after his supporters were alleged to have clashed with the opposition Party supporters on the streets of Mogadishu, the Capital City of Somalia.

The opposition Party supporters are said to have been pissed off by the doings of the President in recent times, especially after signing into law, adding additional two years to his supposed four years term as a President of Somalia in April 2021, making him the first President that is going to rule for Six 6 years in the history of the country.

The opposition Party Supporters who see the action of the sitting president as an abuse of power decided to have a showdown with the President’s Supporters on Sunday afternoon. Leaving scores injured in the process.

It wasn’t clear if there was any death after the incident, but a Source said that scores of people were injured during the showdown, Gunshots were heard, but the injured are presently receiving treatments in various hospitals in the capital.

The President is said to have signed into law, a bill adding two years to his supposed four years term, making him the first President to rule for Six (6) years in the history of the country. Trouble started when it was time for a general election to elect another president and the opposition Party saw nothing happening because the law has been changed.

Recall that the country of Somalia Plunged into a civil War in 1991 with thousands of people dead and many rendered homeless. As a matter of fact, the country has not recovered from the impact of the civil war, many years after.

The same country has been struggling with its economy and re-establishment of the Central Government since the end of the civil war in the country, but little is said to have been achieved so far in the struggle to fully re-establish the Central Government, revitalizing the economy and fight against sicknesses and diseases, affecting the populace.

History almost repeated itself when the country failed to hold the general election because of the change that was made to the Constitution by the incumbent president by signing into law his tenure elongation altering the normal constitutional four-year term for the President.

The decision he took attracted a lot of criticism from the opposition Party in mid-April leading to a near breakdown of law and order by the two supporters of the party.
But the opposition who accuses the President of Abusing his power by elongating his tenure is said to be out on the streets of Mogadishu on Sunday evening demanding the President’s resignation with immediate effect.

The President supporters were said to come out for counter-protest before the chaos and the gunshots. According to a source, normalcy has retired to the city as at the time of writing this report.
