Some Cabinet secretaries of the United States President, Donald Trump are reported to be in early talks on whether to invoke a section of the 25th Amendment to strip Trump of his powers and install Vice President Mike Pence as head of the executive branch.
The Cabinet’s decision followed the chaotic incident that held on Wednesday when Trump supporters violently took over the U.S. Capitol.
Although no formal proposal has been sent to Vice President Pence yet, however CBS News, and CNN reported that it’s not clear if there’s enough support in the Cabinet to force the president’s removal.
Section 4 of the 25th Amendment of the United States, empowers the Vice President and the Cabinet to agree that the president is “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office”,thereby removing him from power.
Consequence of this would mean that Pence would immediately assume the role of president.
Following the chaos on the Capitol on Wednesday by Trump supporters, Calls grew throughout the day Wednesday for the 25th Amendment to be invoked, even from some Republicans.
